In this session, Kristi Brown, school health & safety coordinator for Humphreys County Schools, talks about the August 21, 2021 flash flood which ravaged their community. Over 400 homes were damaged or destroyed, 20 lives were lost, two schools were destroyed, a fleet of school buses were lost, and the school district’s central office was heavily damaged. Additionally, many school staff members lost their homes and loved ones. Brown talks about their experience in getting back to “normal,” the recovery process, and the importance of resiliency.
