About

Join us this fall for two amazing days with fellow educators as we learn from some of the nation's leading educators, researchers, and practitioners about creating systems to support student success! The Student Focused Teacher Led Conference (SFTL 2023) is an annual event organized by the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, Bright Futures USA, and The Reform Alliance. This year's conference features four distinct conference tracks:

  1. Pathways for Prevention of School Violence: This conference track is facilitated by Safe and Sound Schools, providing six comprehensive training modules covering the topics of bullying prevention and intervention, suicide prevention and intervention, positive behavior supports, responding to threatening behaviors, supporting individuals and school communities through grief experiences, and identifying and supporting student trauma experiences.
  2. Community Engagement Strategies that Work!: Facilitated by Bright Futures USAlearn from communities across the nation about effective strategies to engage the broader community in the work of schools to change the academic and life outcomes of our children and youth. This track will feature panels with community engagement coordinators, establishing family resource centers, and strategies to sustain the work over time.
  3. Learner-Centered Assessment: The focus of this track is designing and executing a systemic, balanced, and learner-centered assessment framework to 1) strengthen clarity for every learner through co-constructed learning progressions; 2) involve all learners in every aspect of the assessment process to advance ownership and agency; 3) design a learner-center, balanced assessment framework that serves all learners, educators, families, and community; and 4) amplify grading practices that reflect learner's progress of academic, social, and emotional competencies.
  4. Hot Topics in Arkansas Education: Led by the Arkansas Department of Education, department staff will provide updates and informational sessions on state initiatives, programs, and upcoming efforts to ensure every Arkansan is equitably prepared, supported, and inspired to succeed in school, career, community, and life.

At SFTL 2023, there truly is something for everyone! We look forward to seeing you in September!
