Fundamentals of K–12 BTAM Workshop (Half Day)
This interactive half-day Foundations of K–12 BTAM (Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management) workshop introduces participants to the core concepts, principles, and practices that support effective threat assessment and intervention in K–12 educational settings. Designed for educators, administrators, student support professionals, and multidisciplinary team members, the session builds a shared understanding of the BTAM process and how teams can respond to concerning behaviors with a focus on safety, prevention, and student support.
Through a combination of facilitated discussion, group activities, and scenario-based exercises, participants will explore the foundations of behavioral threat assessment, including identifying concerning behaviors, gathering and evaluating information, applying a structured assessment approach, and developing appropriate management and support strategies.
Participants will engage in realistic K–12 scenarios that encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and practical application of BTAM concepts. Activities will help attendees strengthen their ability to recognize behavioral indicators, contribute meaningful information to a multidisciplinary team, and make informed decisions that balance safety with the needs of students and the school community.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a foundational understanding of K–12 BTAM principles, processes, and practices, preparing them to engage in the advanced concepts, discussions, and applications presented throughout the PREVENT Conference program.
