This two part presentation will describe the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center’s (NTAC’s) role in the field of targeted school violence prevention and emphasize the Secret Service’s commitment to protecting children. An overview of free educational resources developed in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and exploited Children (NCMEC) for parents, guardians, communities, and K-12 students will be provided. The presentation will also include an overview of NTAC’s latest research on incidents of targeted school violence and averted plots in K-12 schools, operational guidance for development of behavior-based threat assessment programs, and available resources to strengthen proactive intervention efforts for students who elicit concern in others.
