Dr. Greg Wallace is the Supervisor of Safety and Mental Health for Johnson City Schools. He was born in New York but moved to West Virginia at age 8. As a child who spent most of his teen years in extreme poverty and homeless, Dr. Wallace recognized at a young age the value and need of school-based social and emotional support.
Dr. Wallace graduated Kentucky Christian University in 1988 and then completed a Masters of Divinity from Emmanuel School of Religion in 1991. In 1993, Dr. Wallace became an Elementary School Counselor after completing a Masters in Education in School Counseling from ETSU and was named Sam’s Club Teacher of the year in 2005. He later moved to Johnson City Schools and completed his Doctorate in School Administration from ETSU. Dr. Wallace was the Director of the Safe Schools Healthy Students federal grant for Johnson City Schools which at the time became the first District in the United States to fully sustain the program. Dr. Wallace is a strong believer in school-based mental health services and was named the East Grand Division supervisor of the year in Tennessee in 2022.
