Melanie Riden-Bacon is currently working as a Graduation Coach in School Support at Science Hill High School.
Prior to working as a Graduation Coach, Melanie served as building adminstrator for Topper Academy 2017 – 2020 and Principal of Science Hill High School 2011 – 2017. She also served as Principal of Sullivan Central High School 2007 – 2011. She served as Assistant Principal at Science Hill High School 2000 – 2007 and taught computer classes at Sullivan South High School from 1991 – 2000.
She was instrumental in getting Science Hill off the High Priority Grad Rate list in 2006-2007 and Sullivan Central High School off the High Priority Grad Rate list in 2010-2011.
She restructured Sullivan Central’s safety plan and trained all staff and students on active shooter drills which later saved the lives of many in that school. The school had an active shooter in the building in August 2010 which resulted in the active shooter being the only person killed due to the successful implementation of the safety plan by all staff, students, and first responders.
Melanie frequently travels to various school systems and conferences sharing best practices in school safety and trauma informed care. Experiencing her own trauma in the school shooting and having a passion for all students to be successful, led her to know how to positively impact the culture and climate at Topper Academy.
Melanie has been married to Jeff Bacon for 12 years. They believe God brought them together to do His will and be a positive difference in the lives of people they meet. They love to travel all over the world and meet new people. Their blended adult families have been a great blessing. Their two daughters, son, son-in-laws and daughter in-law bring lots of fun and fond memories to last forever. Their most amazing blessings are their two grandchildren – Sawyer 10 years old and Finley Grace 6 years old.
