Shameka Christon is from Hot Springs Arkansas. She graduated from Hot Springs High with high honors and received a full scholarship to attend the University of Arkansas Fayetteville. There she was a stellar athlete and received numerous awards and accolades. Although, Shameka graduated with a Bachelor's of Social Work, she decided to pursue her dreams of playing basketball in the WNBA before entering her career as a social worker. Drafted first round, fifth pick to the New York Liberty, Shameka had a successful professional basketball career that spanned over a 13 year period. Basketball afforded her the opportunity to travel the world while meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. Shameka is currently serving in her third year as Coordinator of Bright Futures Benton for Benton Public School District. She finds this work to be some of the most rewarding work she has ever been apart of.
