Janet Watkins works as a TN School Safety Mentor and provides threat assessment trainings in her home state of Tennessee through Safe and Sound Schools. She previously served as Project Coordinator and Director of Training for Tennessee Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education (AWARE) for the Tennessee Department of Education, coordinating and managing three Project AWARE grants and mental health supports training and technical assistance statewide for nearly nine years. Through this work, she provided training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health First Aid for Adults, Mental Health First Aid for Law Enforcement, Corrections and Public Safety, Building Strong Brains-Strategies for Educators, TN Schools PREPARE, Comprehensive School Based Mental Health Supports, and Restorative Practices. Prior to her work at the Tennessee Department of Education, Janet was an educator and school counselor in Tennessee elementary schools for over 20 years. Her passion in supporting districts though crisis response and recovery statewide as well as trauma-informed education continues to guide her work.
