Bernard James is the Professor of Constitutional Law and Education Law at the Caruso School of Law at Pepperdine University. He teaches courses in Civil Rights, Constitutional Law, and Education Law. Professor James is the author of the textbook Education Policy and the Law: Cases and Commentary 2nd ed. He has served as a senior consultant to the US Department of Education and the US Department of Justice where he co-authored Sharing Information: A Guide to FERPA and Participation in Juvenile Justice Programs. His blog, School Safety Law Blog, has received an award as the best informative source of information on legislation, judicial decisions, and school policy relating to school safety and student rights. He lectures on school law in North America and also in Europe - most recently twice for Oxford University. He is the contributing editor on legal issues to the NASRO Journal of School Safety. His undergraduate and law degrees are from the University of Michigan.
