Marie Gay is the Research and Special Projects Assistant at Safe and Sound Schools, where she plays a key role in organizing and evaluating data for the Averted School Violence database. Her work supports the development of evidence-based training and educational resources used by school safety professionals nationwide.

Marie graduated in 2024 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science, with a focus on child health and neuroscience. She also has experience supporting pediatric patients and families through rehabilitation therapies and child life services, which deepens her understanding of trauma-informed care.

As a survivor of the Sandy Hook School tragedy, who lost her sister Josephine, Marie brings a deeply personal commitment to her work, dedicated to building safer, more supportive communities for all students. In addition to her research role, she serves as a presenter, sharing her story to promote prevention, awareness, and resilience in school communities.
