                                                    Jay Fleer served 30 years as a Kansas Law Enforcement Officer.  He began his career in 1991 with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and after graduation from Ottawa University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Economics he accepted a position with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.  Jay spent the last 14 years of his career working at the Mission Police Department.   Jay worked in a variety of assignments during his career, including Detention, Patrol, Street Narcotics Unit, Financial Crime Investigations, D.A.R.E. and SRO.  He also served as Field Training Officer, Rangemaster and Use of Force Instructor for the Mission Police Department.
Jay received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career, including commendations for apprehending fleeing bank robbers, life saving awards and the 2019 Kansas D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year award. For his actions related to the Highlands School Shooting incident, Jay received the Gold Award for Uncommon Valor from the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police and the Gold Medal from the Mission Police Department. The Gold Award and Gold Medal are the highest citations given by those agencies.
Jay retired from law enforcement on September 1, 2021, and immediately went to work building and opening Mission Barbell Club, which is a CrossFit gym in Mission Kansas. He serves as the owner, Head Coach and Chief of Badassery at MBC.
