As BTAM has become more widely used in schools, challenging questions and controversies have arisen that must be answered with scientific research. This session will review common objections to the safety, effectiveness, fairness, and equity of BTAM, and present the available research to answer them. The presentation will be a non-technical, but quantitative, review of research with the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) as well as other models. Emphasis will be given to evidence-based guidance for school-based practices that will prevent violence, support students, and improve school climate. Participants will be equipped with evidence-based answers to key BTAM questions.
