Sgt. Dave Sorensen: Utah County School Security Chief Sgt. Dave Sorensen has served as a law enforcement officer in Utah since 1999 and currently serves as the Utah County School Security Chief. In this role, he oversees safety operations for more than 190 schools, coordinates with 15 law enforcement agencies, and manages the training and readiness of over 400 School Guardians. Sgt. Sorensen began his career with the Springville City Police Department, where he served as a Patrol Officer, Special Victims Unit Detective, and member of the Utah County Metro SWAT Team before joining the Utah County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. During his 20-year career with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Sorensen has held a wide range of assignments, including Patrol Deputy, Special Victims Unit Detective, Search and Rescue Sergeant, Court Sergeant assigned to the 4th District Court in Provo, and Detective Sergeant. He also served on the Utah County Metro SWAT Team for 16 years. In April 2024, he was selected as the first Utah County School Security Chief. Throughout his career, Sgt. Sorensen has received numerous awards and recognition for his work ethic, sound judgment, and commitment to professional development. As School Security Chief, he has personally conducted School Safety Needs Assessments at more than 190 schools across Utah County and oversees the Utah County School Guardian Program, which includes over 400 trained guardians and close collaboration with 15 law enforcement agencies. The development and ongoing management of the Guardian Program has required tens of thousands of hours of coordinated effort between law enforcement trainers and school personnel. Sgt. Sorensen has led this initiative from its inception, making it the largest and most impactful project of his career—and one he considers among his greatest professional accomplishments. Sgt. Sorensen has completed extensive specialized training with a focus on firearms, tactical operations, and investigative techniques. He is a certified instructor in Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.) and Active Shooter Level I through Texas State University’s Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (A.L.E.R.R.T.) program.
