How Florida Created a Culture of Safety After the Parkland School Shooting
Description

Following the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Florida enacted several school safety reforms designed to strengthen prevention, preparedness, response, and accountability across K–12 schools.

Max Schachter's presentation will delve into Florida’s nine school safety bills detailing the safety measures that have been implemented such as threat management, armed school safety officers, active shooter drills, Alyssa’s law, and school safety data.

Attendees will gain insight into how these were developed, what safety measures were implemented, and the ongoing challenges schools and communities face in balancing security, prevention, and student well-being.
