Laura Frye Weaver is the Founder and CEO of the Door Opening Industry Training Group (DOIT)
and a nationally recognized authority on doors, hardware, life safety, and school security. With
more than 35 years of experience spanning manufacturing, distribution, consulting, education,
and industry leadership, she has dedicated her career to advancing the safe, secure, and codecompliant design and operation of openings.

Laura is an active participant in building code development and serves as Chair of the Partner
Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) Compliance Committee, where she helps bridge the gap
between school safety objectives, life safety requirements, and code compliance. Through her
work with PASS, industry organizations, school safety stakeholders, and educational institutions,
she advocates for practical, research-informed approaches to creating safer learning
environments.

A frequent speaker and educator, Laura specializes in the role doors, hardware, and
compartmentalization play in emergency preparedness, fire protection, and school security. She
is widely recognized for promoting compliant security solutions and educating audiences on the
importance of balancing safety, security, and emergency egress.

In 2019, Laura received DHI’s Distinguished Consultant Award in recognition of her significant
contributions to the advancement of knowledge within the door and hardware industry.
Through DOIT, she continues to provide training and education worldwide, helping professionals
better understand how openings contribute to life safety, security, and resilience when seconds
matter.
