In today’s hyperconnected world, the radicalization of youth can begin with a simple online interaction and escalate into serious threats to school safety. This interactive session explores how extremist ideologies exploit digital platforms to recruit and groom vulnerable students, including those with neurodiverse profiles, and how schools can intervene early.
Presenters will share lessons learned from a real-world case in which a school was unexpectedly confronted with student radicalization, illustrating both effective interventions and areas where challenges arose. Emphasis will be placed on actionable strategies for early identification, multidisciplinary coordination, and ongoing behavioral management informed by behavioral threat assessment, ecological systems theory, digital hygiene practices, and trauma-informed care. The session will culminate in an interactive case exercise, allowing participants to collaboratively apply assessment and intervention principles to a realistic school scenario and develop tailored, practical steps to enhance their own prevention and response systems.
