Navigating the Current Behavioral Threat Assessment & Management Landscape: Lessons Learned and How We Can Improve Our Systems
Description

This practitioner-focused session examines lessons learned from recent cases involving school violence and youth suicide to identify critical opportunities for strengthening Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) practices in K–12 settings. Participants will review common investigative, legal, and assessment challenges encountered by multidisciplinary BTAM teams and explore how system gaps can contribute to missed opportunities for intervention.

Participants will identify practical strategies to strengthen threat assessment processes, improve team decision-making, and enhance collaboration among school-based teams, mental health professionals, and law enforcement partners. Attendees will leave with actionable insights, resources, and tools to support more effective BTAM practices and promote the safety and well-being of students, staff, and school communities.
