This session will provide an overview of Restorative Practices (RP) and the philosophy behind the practices. Restorative practices are approaches to proactively build positive school culture and relationships while holding students accountable for disruptive behaviors and providing students an opportunity to repair harm and restore positive relationships. Engaging in restorative practices result in fewer disruptive behaviors, suspensions, and expulsions, which allows more time for educators and students to focus on in-school learning. When implemented correctly, RP incorporates the concepts of relationships, community, and accountability. The learning objectives will include:
-
Increase knowledge of the fundamental principles of RP
-
Increase understanding of the continuum of RP
-
Increase the use of RP principles in daily interactions with youth and discuss the correct application of RP
